Summary

I am not looking for work at the moment due to ill health. I am still making models to sell on Sketchfab as part of my hobby, but I am not taking any work offers. please don't send me any.

Diagnosed with adult autism in 2020 and crohns disease in 2010

I’m a very creative individual that has a First Class Honours BSc Computer Games Design, and looking for job opportunities to help develop myself as a person and contribute towards creating products that create an inclusive environment for people. Although I concentrated primarily on 3d, I was also proficient at Games Design, basic animations and achieving ideas within a team. I can work unsupervised to a high degree, but I prefer working in a team of likeminded individuals. I have been working 2 years freelance in 3d for a theming company, whilst also improving my portfolio of work. I had previously worked 12 years as a graphic designer in signmaking before contracting crohns which meant I was off work for a year recovering. In the meantime, I wrote a novel which I managed to get printed in America using an agent friend. Wanting to return to work and not let my illness defeat me I started on the Games Design course mentioned, having been passionate in games since I was young, and found it suited better than anything I had done previously managing to get a first in all subjects and 3rd place at Gradex.

Key Skills

3ds max
I have an good working knowledge of 3ds max. Having used it for all my projects. This included asset creation for Unreal 4 / 5 but also for making key frame animations. I have an decent understanding of unwrapping and keeping low poly models within a set tri count. Also the creation of normal and ambient occlusion maps.
I have used it for highpoly modelling, hardsurface, creating trim and texture sheets using floating geometry and double turbosmooth.

Unreal editor 4 and 5
I used to use them a lot but haven't as much in recent years due to doing other things. Just for rendering scenes that I make now. So I would have to relearn a lot of stuff I once knew.

Photoshop
Good General knowledge

Substance Painter
Been using Substance Painter since 2017 for pretty much everything

Other programs I have used
CorelDraw
Corel Videostudio
Word

Communication skills
My work as a signmaker involved having good communication skills and the ability to work in a team. Something that has helped immensely in the field of Games Design. I have worked on two projects at university in a team over a year each. One as a junior Artist and then as a senior.

Hobbies
• Gaming – Been gaming for a good long while, since the first machines were made. Have played most genre types over the years but in the end settled on just a few. Currently MMOs and Adventure / RPG games fill most of my time when not working. I used to love driving and fighting games, but my interests have gone more to the exploration and problem-solving aspects of games in recent years. And stopping to see how things are made.

• Games Design – Have been creating environments since 1996, it was my biggest passion which was also a deciding factor on me returning to University to become qualified in that subject. I started making my first maps for Duke Nukem 3d, firstly on a Mac computer then moving to PC later. My skills didn’t start to get noticed though until Star Trek Elite Force, when I used to make multiplayer maps for the community, growing my name getting known for quality of design and lighting and the huge scale of my levels, which also had functionality unlike most maps at the time allowing players to interact with traps and switches in a Multiplayer map. I mainly based my levels off film locations, but changing them to be fun. During my map making, I got to know Mike Gummelt at Raven Studios who was working on a mapping editor for Star Wars Jedi Outcast, after Raven had seen our multiplayer maps, and made this one larger so we could make bigger environments. As GTK Radiant was only in Beta at the time he helped me release it for that game, and it was the first custom made multiplayer made for Jedi Outcast, called “Carbon Freeze” After making a great number of levels for that game, most of which might still be downloadable or lost to the mists of time, I moved onto Star Wars Jedi Academy, where my skills improved immensely alongside other likeminded multiplayer mappers. An even bigger editor was released hopefully thanks to the large maps we were making, and I created at least 1 single player campaign myself for Jedi Outcast called, Nemesis of Katarn. In total about 30 or so Multiplayer maps from 2003 to 2005 with most getting from 3000 to 7000 downloads, one got 70,000. As stated I used a program called GTK radiant, so most maps were just BSP with mesh endcaps and bevels. It wasn’t until returning to university that I would learn 3ds max which allowed me to create even more detailed environments, starting with UDK then moving onto UE4. My knowledge of mapping helped me teach my fellow students while I was at University, helping them to improve their skills whilst studying alongside them. • Films and TV, mainly Sci Fi.

• Painting – Because I used to be a graphic designer, I loved to paint water colours. Not as much since I have been making environments though. • Games Workshop figure painting. I have a real passion for painting these models, and my skills and detail in painting them have increased over the years, mainly thanks to my texturing of assets for my levels. I also used to make the buildings from foam card and balsa wood, a passion which I then translated to my game environments.

• Writing - While not a top class writer I did manage to publish one novel called The World Keepers – Heroes of Lucarr. I did have plans to do another 2 but after returning to Uni my passion turned to games again.

• Passion to help others gain in their abilities and gain enjoyment from playing locations they recognize – One reason I make maps, other than to create things, was to see people enjoy playing them, receiving emails about how they loved playing on them. But while at Uni I helped my fellow students get better when they were struggling.
